"The lovers of good Theatrical representations are offered a great feast to-night at the Walnut street, for the Benefit of the Directress, Miss Charlotte Cushman. We have reason to believe that the theatre going public duly appreciate the strenuous efforts of this lady, during the past season, to revive and cherish the L egitimate [sic] Drama, and if she has not succeeded to the extent which such exertions and talent merit, it has been because of drawbacks not to be overcome in a single season. But we hope to see abundant evidence, in the character and number of the audience to-night, that the claims of Miss Cushman as regards her standing in her profession, and her devotion to the arduous duties desolving upon her as Directress of the Theatre, are  justly and gratefully remembered. Those who love to see "a good play, well performed," will be at the Walnut street to night [sic] – those who would cherish and sustain dramatic genius will be there – and those who know and appreciate the private worth of the beneficiary, will certainly lend their countencance to encourage a lady so full of claims upon their sympathy and kind interest."
