BRIGHTON.--Miss Cushman and her protege, Miss M. M Hays have been the stars here this week. They appeared on Tuesday evening in Romeo and Juliet, Miss Cushman playing Romeo, and Miss Hays Juliet. On Wednesday the play was the Lady of Lyons. Claude Melnotte, Miss Cushman; Pauline, Miss Hays. The truthful and vigorous character with which Miss Cushman invests both these parts, is too well known to require further comment thant that she was listened to with marked attention throughout, loudly applauded, and recalled on the fall of the curtain. Miss Hays is quiet and lady-like in her style, but she does not possess the materiel [sic] for a great actress. The performances on Friday evening were for the benefit of Miss Cushman, and consisted of the comedy of the Honeymoon and the musical play of Guy Mannering, the beneficiaire enacting Juliana in the first, and Meg Merrilies in the latter piece. The Robber's Wife, Peggy Green, Helen Oakley, Judith of Geneva, &c., have been well played on the off nights by the stock company.
