last year Longfellow spoke to me about reading
something [?] which he had written. or was writing. The Judas Maccabaeus!--is then anything of his printed [?] bearing on this subject if so please inform me name [?] & place that I may see if I can do any

[page 2] thing with it. with an orchestra. I hope you are well both. Emma Stebbins & with her sister to nurse her. for she was very seriously ill--was  brought here. about 3 weeks ago. she is better but still in a very very delicate state.  I am here hursing her a +++ weeks. holiday. Holy week. which Mrs Fleming [?] her sister & called back to the possible speedy passing

[page 3] away of the mother at Hyde Park next week. I am at +++ Washington. D.C. The week of the 13, at Exchange Hotel.  Richmond 1--Pretty well but obliged to go on very quietly &  steadily. Love to Jamie.
