Your favor of 1" arrd [arrived] to hand this morning. You would have heard from me earlier. but than it has been difficult for me to arrange about my reading nights! Even now I am uncertain whether I can [illegible, crossed out] go [inserted] to you on the 21" or 22d of Dec. my engaget [engagement] at the Theatre, here filling up nearly all my time. & crowding out my Boston reading entirely. so that I must press them my provincial readings into
[page 2] the week commencing the 18 Dec. on Wednesday next. you shall hear from me again, as to which of the dates I have named. I can fix, for Brattleboro. Earlier than that I can not have my replies to my Enquiries. but as the date is a little remote. you may not be pressed, as to your newspaper Notices. I am pleased that your citizens want me to come [?] to Brattleboro [last two words inserted] & seem glad that I have given my promise to go. Believe me (in some haste)
