Description

Cushman wants the Field family to come over for a visit, mentioning her bitterness and lack of vitality. The doctor calls her a "miracle" even though she does not feel well, as she admits. Emma Cushman came around to see her and they took off to town together. Emma Stebbins on the other hand seems to be in a poor state, which worries Cushman.

Text

[page 1] Dear Annie. I recd your kind message by Miss North [?]. the other day. about the "Tale [?] of shoals". but some how. although I had the energy to originate this idea, I lack the back bone to carry it out. I want you & Jamie to come here & see us & give us some vitality. Although I am so much better in almost all ways I begin to find that there

[page 2] is not much spring left in me. I want to be taken up bodily & made to do whatever is right & good & pleasant. Emma Cushman came to town on Friday & came down here to stay over Saty [Saturday] & Sunday night. Yesterday +++ she took me into town with her on her way home to her babies at Newport & I was much better for the jaunt in the nice cool day. So you see I can be moved when the right spirit influences me. Do come over & see us &

[page 3] let us talk about what can & what cannot be done. & move our good host & hostess to stay [?] with in, & then, will things be carried out. Emma Stebbins is in a very hurt & poorly state. difficult to move. & perhaps that is one reason why I am less energetic. she sends dear love to you & wants to see you very much. you know she is here with me. I want to hear so much That you can tell me about lots of things. You know it is +++

[page 4] that I shall be well enough to stay [?] an +++ with Broth [?] in New York beginning 25' Sep". Dr Lewis. says I am a miracleI am not well. but there are hopes of me.
Believe me Ever
affectionately Yours
Charlotte Cushman
Is not Miss North my niece [?]?
