Dear & kind friend
Your note of Tuesday has brought me. great satisfaction! How good & true you are, & how much I have to thank you for your attention to my desires for my boy +++ my warmest gratitude & indeed you have it. Nobody, Ever did so much for me before & I feel it accordingly. Ned brings this to you! he is "happy as a king". happier he is duly, impressed with his great good fortune & I believe will do all that in him lies to justify what you have said of him: He has so much at stake. so much to strive for, that I believe sincerely, he will do his very utmost to deserve success.
[page 2] you know that it requires a very peculiar talent to become a salesman, & it may be that he will not succeed in that department but I am sure he will try. & during the trial he will be getting a general knowledge of business which must prove of service to him. Heaven knows how Earnestly I desire him to succeed. Mr Crow does business with the +++ of Gardner Brown. and thus Ned must be on his good behavior & make himself popular with all the members of the house. as well as the buyers. you can give him a hint of this
[page 3] which coming from a businessman — Ned will value far higher than any "old-aunty's notions". May I ask of you to deal with him as a younger brother. & dont [sic] forget the word of caution about my associates — & place where he makes his home. See how your kindness emboldens me to ask for "more" — indeed I am so for +++ in. "receeding [sic] +++ as tedious as go o'er". He will remain in Boston until he can see Mr Brown what do you think of his seeing Mr Bube first. and if possible doing something with +++. which Mr
[page 4] Fish [?] & Mr Blodfelt [?] — (partners of Mr Bube) could be approached in through [?] Mr Cochian! +++ use your own judgments. Mrs Crow leaves here next Wednesday. I have told Ned to arrange if possible to come back here to remain with them until they leave, & then he can return & commence work. Again & again thank you! we speak of you & dear Annie incessantly & love you both dearly. You have taken Mrs Stebbins & Mrs Sartain [?] by Storm — as you did us.
